Briefing on Hampton's Summer Youth Employment Program
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The primary goals of the Summer Youth Employment Program is to offer youth in the City of Hampton economic opportunity, job skill development, and provide a pathway to future employability, all of which supports the success of young people. This program introduces young people to local government and private sector careers. Our program currently has 83 program participants (81 high school, 2 college). The success of the program relies heavily on partnerships with city departments and local business who support the program by hosting students and allowing them to work 20 hours each week. This year we have 26 internal host sites and 10 external host sites (all 10 are businesses in the City of Hampton).
