To approve the Resolution Recognizing Councilman Will Moffett for his dedicate service as a Member of Council.

Body
WHEREAS, Councilman Will Moffett has been a resident of Hampton, Virginia, for more than 40 years;

WHEREAS, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the North Carolina College of Theology;

WHEREAS, he is a United States Air Force veteran, and retired after 31 years of service with the Department of the Army, where he served as Visual Information Manager and retired as the Director of Plans, Mobilization and Security;

WHEREAS, over the years, he served on several citizen committees, including Chair of the Hampton Neighborhood Commission; Vice-Chair of the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority; Co-Chair of the Hampton 400th Anniversary Committee; President of the Volunteer Center of the Virginia Peninsula; Member of Hampton’s Unity Commission; National Points of Light Foundation (Neighboring Task Force); and as a member of the board of directors of numerous non-profit organizations;

WHEREAS, he was one of three Hampton representatives invited to the White House in Washington, D.C., to accept the prestigious All-America City Award and was one of two Hampton representatives invited to Berlin, Germany, to participate in the Reinhard Mohn Prize symposium on civic engagement, entitled “Revitalizing Democracy through Participation”;

WHEREAS, Councilman Moffett is well-known for being instrumental in establishing the Y. H. Thomas Neighborhood Center in Hampton, a unique community empowerment model for the country;
