Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The City Council adopted a resolution wherein the Economic Development Authority of the City of Hampton, Virginia ("EDA") was designated as the agency to implement the City’s Comprehensive plan as it relates to commercial and mixed use development.

The City originally acquired the above-mentioned property in the Phoebus area in 1974, from the School Board of the City of Hampton, Virginia. The City subsequently conveyed the property to a third party in 1976 by Deed and Agreement which terms outlined the City's rights in case of a default. As a result of default, the property was subsequently conveyed back to the City in 1999. The City now desires to transfer the property to the EDA for redevelopment in accordance with the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

City staff recommends the transfer of the City lot to the EDA.

No public hearing is required pursuant to Virginia Code §15.2-4917.

WHEREAS, the City of Hampton, Virginia ("City") owns a parcel of land in the Phoebus area of the City of Hampton, Virginia which it desires to transfer to the Economic Development Authority of the City of Hampton, Virginia ("EDA”);
WHEREAS, this site is generally described as 111 Howard Street, LRSN: 12001326;
WHEREAS, the City Council has designated the EDA as the agency to implement the City's Comprehensive Plan as it relates to commercial and mixed use development and redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to transfer title to the parcel generally described above to the EDA for redevelopment in accordance with the City's Comprehensive Plan.
