Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Presentation on Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) Expansion Project and Traffic Concerns
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
Jim Utterback, Project Director for the HRBT Expansion Project will update the Hampton City Council on the latest developments with the project. Since he last appeared before council, the contract for the new twin, two-lane tunnels has been awarded and funding and comprehensive agreements have been signed. Mayor Tuck kicked off ceremonial signings in Norfolk on April 25th.
VDOT has also been asked to address existing traffic concerns in Phoebus and Downtown Hampton. These will be exacerbated with the HRBT project. Public Works and Hampton Police Division staff have also met with the Partnership for a New Phoebus and the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership to explore other solutions. Jason Mitchell, Interim Public Works Director, will present options and staff recommendations.
