Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2020 Council Approved Budget and Accept and Appropriate a Contribution of Money from Hampton City Schools in the Amount of $10,000 to further Youth Violence Prevention Efforts in the City of Hampton, Virginia

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

Hampton City Schools provides an annual contribution, in the amount of $10,000, to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities.  The Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities works closely with students from Hampton City Schools and especially with the Summer Youth Employment Program, Urgency of Now and Public Safety Camps.

Discussion:

Hampton City Schools is providing this funding with the sole stipulation that the funds be used by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities to motivate and educate young people so that youth violence does not occur. The funds will also be used to support initiatives that address youth violence in the City of Hampton and benefit Hampton City School students.

Impact:

The $10,000 contribution will be used as follows: Public Safety Partnerships ($2,000); Community Outreach, Education, Programs and Assessment ($8,000).

                     WHEREAS, Hampton City Schools typically provides an annual contribution in the amount of $10,000 to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities in recognition of the work the Office does with students from Hampton City Schools most particularly, through the Summer Youth Employment Program;

                     WHEREAS, Hampton City Schools has made that $10,000 contribution for the 2020 fiscal year;

                     WHEREAS, the sole stipulation for receipt of these funds from Hampton City Schools is that funds be used by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities to motivate and educate young people to prevent youth violence; and
