Resolution Approving Donation of a Deactivated Police Vehicle to the School Board of the City of Hampton

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

New Horizons Education Center has requested that the Hampton Police Division ("HPD") donate a retired police vehicle for use in its criminal justice program.  HPD has a 2005 Impala with approximately 110,000 miles which is being deactivated due to the age and mileage.  It was a departmental purchase in 2005 and is not replaceable under the equipment replacement fund.  Virginia Code § 15.2-953 permits a locality to make a donation of personal property to any other governmental entity.  The School Board of the City of Hampton has agreed to accept donation of this vehicle on behalf of the New Horizons Education Center.  Prior to being donated all HPD markings will be removed from the vehicle.
