Title
Resolution Approving the Change of the Name of Magruder Boulevard in the City of Hampton, to Neil Armstrong Parkway

Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong made history by becoming the first man to walk on the moon. On the 50 year anniversary of Neil Armstrong's historic journey to the moon, the City of Hampton is considering renaming Magruder Boulevard to Neil Armstrong Parkway in connection with Hampton's partnership with the NASA Langley Research Center.

Discussion:

See Purpose/Background above.

Impact:

Approximately 11 properties in the City of Hampton would be impacted by re-naming Magruder Boulevard and all have consented. The financial impact to each property owner would be approximately $7,500.00 to change business addresses, identification signs, letterhead, websites and other items.

VDOT would be required to fabricate and install 3 overhead interstate signs. VDOT's estimated cost for fabrication and installation of these new signs would be approximately $40,000.00 to $60,000.00 dollars. VDOT would need to close interstate lanes to replace these signs and the VDOT process would take approximately 120 days to complete.

Recommendation:
Rec
Approve the Resolution.
