Consideration of Appointments to the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

 

Billy J. Roberts' term ends on July 1, 2020, and he is not eligible for reappointment.  Council is being asked to appoint an individual to serve a first term which will expire on June 30, 2023.

 

Golden H. Bethune-Hill's term ends July 1, 2020, and she has asked not to be reappointed.  Council is being asked to appoint an individual to serve a first term which will also expire on June 30, 2023.

 

There are individuals in the Board Bank who have expressed a desire to serve on this board. Those applications are being provided to Council.

Tishaun Ophelia currently serves on the Grievance Board until June 2022

ADDED POST-PUBLICATION - Dr. Michelle T. Boone-Thornton is currently serving on the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program Board but her first term ends June 30, 2020, and she is being recommended for reappointment to a second term.  If reappointed, she would be serving on one board an eligible for appointment to a second.  If she is not reappointed, there are no issues at all with her serving on this board.

A recommendation is attached for Council's review.  Due to COVID-19 the letter was mailed to the board chair for signature which he signed and mailed back but unfortunately has not been received in the mail.
