Body
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Linda D. Curtis, was born on August 15, 1953;

WHEREAS, she graduated from Bridgewater Raritan High School East in 1971;

WHEREAS, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Miami and her Juris Doctor from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary;

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Curtis served as the Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in Hampton and as the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Virginia Beach;

WHEREAS, she became Hampton’s Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1995, and was the first woman to serve in that position;

WHEREAS, in 2001, Councilwoman Curtis was elected the first woman President of the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys;

WHEREAS, she was named one of the “Influential Women of Virginia” in 2009, and received the Hampton University Presidential Citizenship Award in 2012;

WHEREAS, in 2012, Councilwoman Curtis retired as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Hampton after 17 years of service;

WHEREAS, she has served as a Hampton City Councilwoman since 2013, and as the Vice Mayor from 2013 until 2018;

WHEREAS, she served on the Board of Directors for Transitions Family Violence Services, which provides comprehensive services to families involved in domestic violence, and Alternatives, Inc., which seeks to help develop healthy, principled and creative young people fully engaged in the life of the community;

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Curtis also served on the boards of the Y.H. Thomas Community Center, the Historical Foundation of Aberdeen, the Kenneth Wallace Neighborhood Resource Center and the Downtown Hampton Child Development Center;

WHEREAS, she is married to her husband of 32 years, Dr. W. R. Scott Curtis, Jr.;

WHEREAS, she is the proud stepmother of three adult children, Scott, Emily and Katie, and grandmother to 10 grandchildren; and
