Strategic Priority Update:  Family Resilience and Economic Empowerment

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

On November 13, 2019, a presentation was made to the Hampton City Council on work in our community that is focused on Family Resilience and Economic Empowerment. The attached presentation is an update to the November presentation. It highlights the work of the Hampton Department of Human Services and its partners  as we continue to embrace the opportunity to work toward career paths for citizens in our community who are living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. The update will include a historical perspective and current outcomes.

Discussion:

The  presentation addresses the effective systems of care approach that has built meaningful partnerships in Hampton and beyond empowering families and addressing the complicated needs of children experiencing challenges in their home, school and community. It also addresses social and economic mobility, using a two-generation approach.

Impact:

Citizens will be assisted in obtaining career paths to overcome their dependence on public assistance programs. the TANF Assessment and Planning Team has been established to provide individualized plans and to track outcomes.

Recommendation:

Rec

A community-wide focus on "what can be" for Hampton's families when services and interventions are creative, innovative and evidence-based.
