Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2021 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Grant Awarded by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services ("DCJS") to the City of Hampton, Virginia

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding ("CESF") Grant provides federal grant funds to assist in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the coronavirus in the City of Hampton (the "City").  Funds granted to Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office will be used to implement new technologies and procure supplies which will encourage social distancing and promote the health, safety, and well-being of the public and employees while maintaining the highest level of efficiency.

 

Impact:

This grant award will help prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus.  No cash or in-kind match is required for this grant.  For the current fiscal year, the City has been awarded $49,940.00 in federal grant funds.  The grant cycle runs from January 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021.  An additional solicitation may be issued by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services ("DCJS") in the future based on trends and projections.

 

Recommendation:

Approve.

                      WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice ("DCJS") has awarded the City of Hampton, Virginia (“City”) a 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (“CESF") Grant in the amount of $49,940.00 in federal grant funding;

 

                     WHEREAS, the CESF Grant award does not require a cash or in-kind match;

 

                     WHEREAS, the CESF Grant award, totaling $49,940.00, will be used by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to implement new technologies and procure supplies which will encourage social distancing and promote the health, safety, and well-being of the public and employees while maintaining the highest level of efficiency; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the grant award is for the period of January 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia hereby amends its Fiscal Year 2021 Council Approved Budget to accept and appropriate the 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding ("CESF") Grant in the amount of $49,940.00, and any supplemental funding, as awarded by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to the Grant Fund to implement new technologies and procure supplies which will encourage social distancing and promote the health, safety, and well-being of the public and employees in accordance with the grant agreement.

 

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia authorizes the City Manager, or her designee, to take any and all actions necessary to implement this grant award.
