Resolution Authorizing the Donation of Tasers to the Boyd County Kentucky Detention Center
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
John McComas, Sr., who retired from the Hampton Police Division in 2020 as a Senior Corporal and is now employed as a Deputy Jailer for the Boyd County Detention Center in Boyd, Kentucky, contacted the Hampton Police Division regarding the possibility of obtaining any old tasers that the police division no longer utilizes. The Boyd County Detention Center is in need of approximately 115 Tasers.
Discussion:
The Hampton Police Division currently has in excess of 115 older model Tasers that are no longer utilized due to the upgrade to a newer model. Due to their nature, if not donated, the Tasers will likely be destroyed. This donation is authorized by Virginia Code Section 15.2-953(C).

Approve the Resolution.

WHEREAS, the Hampton Police Division ("HPD") has in excess of 115 older model Tasers that are no longer utilized due to obtaining upgraded models;
WHEREAS, the Boyd County Detention Center in Boyd County, Kentucky has contacted HPD regarding the possibility of obtaining any old Tasers for use by its deputies; and
WHEREAS, HPD would otherwise likely destroy the older Tasers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia as follows: That City Council hereby approves the donation of approximately 115 Tasers to the Boyd County Detention Center in Boyd County, Kentucky and authorizes the City Manager to enter into any agreements necessary to effectuate that donation.
