Briefing on the Community Assessment on Perceptions of Crime and Safety and the ARPA Community Grant Process
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
In late November through early December of 2021, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities fielded a survey designed by members of the community and Christopher Newport University's Center for Crime, Equity, and Justice Research, to understand better community members' perceptions of crime and safety in the City of Hampton. The report was purposed to better align the department's work with community needs and help design intentional violence prevention and intervention strategies. Also, the office was awarded additional funding from the American Rescue Plan to implement an evidence-based prevention strategy investing in agencies and grassroots collaborations. The purpose of the briefing is to share findings and next steps identified from the community assessment and how the office plans to award grants to partnering organizations.
