Consideration of Appointments to the Board of Zoning Appeals

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

 

The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members.  The last suggested appointee for an alternate, Julianne Cyr Routten, currently serves on the Board of Real Estate Assessments and cannot serve which creates a vacancy.  Members of the board shall hold no other public office in the City except that one may be a member of the Planning Commission.

 

Additionally, Hampton's Zoning Ordinance requires one alternate but allows for up to three alternates.  At this time, there is only one alternate in place.

 

At times, it is a challenge to have a quorum present which could result in delays to consider variances which, in turn, delays permits and plans.

Council is being asked to recommend to the Hampton Circuit Court the appointment of two individuals to serve as alternates on the Board of Zoning Appeals so that this board has sufficient appointees to ensure the necessary quorums for meetings are achieved.
