Motion to Accept Donation of Equipment Valued at Approximately $90,000.00 Annually from the Coliseum Business Improvement District to the City for use by the Hampton Police Division.

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The Coliseum Business Improvement District ("BID") has contracted with Flock Safety for the use of 38 Automated License Plate Readers ("ALPRs") for use by the Hampton Police Division ("HPD") in the Coliseum BID area.  ALPRs, which take pictures of the backs of vehicles, can be used to alert HPD officers when they pick up a license plate number related to a stolen vehicle, wanted person, or AMBER alert.

 

Impact:

If purchased by the City, 38 ALPRs would cost approximately $95,000 annually.
