To approve the resolution in recognition of Councilwoman Eleanor Weston Brown.

Body
WHEREAS, Eleanor Weston Brown was born on February 9, 1960, and is a native of the City of Hampton, Virginia;

WHEREAS, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, her Juris Doctor degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, and her Master of Laws in Taxation (LLM) from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary;

WHEREAS, she clerked at the Appellate Division of the Internal Revenue Service, was an associate professor at Regent University School of Law, has been in the private practice of law since 1985 and maintains the practice concentrating in trusts, estates, and taxation;

WHEREAS, during her professional career, Councilwoman Brown earned several awards, including the Faculty Award for Excellence in Service at Regent University and the Presidential Award for Outstanding Citizenship from Hampton University. She was also named one of Virginia Business Magazine’s Legal Elite, “Best Lawyers in Virginia” in the practice areas of Tax, Trusts, and Estates;

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Brown was elected to serve on the Hampton City Council in 2018;

WHEREAS, during her tenure on Council, she became known for her passion for preserving the environment, the outdoors, and the waterways;

WHEREAS, she has an impressive history of public service to the citizens of Hampton. She served on the Hampton Economic Development Authority, Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority, H20 Community Development Authority, Hampton First, and the Virginia Peninsula Economic Development Council
