Title

Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Education Program Grant Awarded by Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), Virginia 911 Services Board.

 

 

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management, 911 Services Board has awarded the City Of Hampton the Public Safety Answering Point Education Grant funding in the amount of $4,000, with no local match required. These funds are to be used to support ongoing dispatch related training and staff development, via online, in person and/or Communications Conference attendance.

 

 

Discussion:

 

The PSAP Education Grant is an annual allotment from the 911 Services Board that is provided to the City of Hampton for the use of PSAP Center Staff to attend specialized ongoing training in such fields as Emergency Medical Dispatch to ensure staff are properly certified and maintain such certifications. Funding can also be used for personnel to attend specialized PSAP based Conferences in the State of Virginia, should any be offered during the grant period.                                          

 

Impact:

 

The City has been awarded $4,000 in grant funds from VDEM. No local cash or in-kind match is required.

                     WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), Virginia 911 Services Board has awarded the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Education Program Grant in the amount of $4,000;

 

                     WHEREAS, the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Education Program Grant does not require a local cash or in-kind match;

 

                     WHEREAS, the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Education Program Grant award will be used by the Hampton Communications Unit (911 Center) for staff training and development; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the grant award is for the period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia hereby amends its Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to accept and appropriate the Fiscal Year 2024 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Education Program Grant award in the amount of $4,000 to the Grant Fund to fund ongoing staff training and development in accordance with the grant agreement.

 

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes the City Manager, or her designee, to take any and all actions necessary to implement this grant award.
