Resolution Appropriating $109,000 to be Received as a Reimbursement from the City of Newport News Upon Construction Completion to the Capital Projects Miscellaneous Revenue Account of the Capital Project Fund for Design and Construction Costs of the Freeman Drive Reconstruction Project based on Agreement between the City of Newport News (Waterworks) and the City of Hampton
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The City of Hampton (“City”) is rebuilding and realigning Freeman Drive through the Freeman Drive Reconstruction Capital Improvement Project Number 14-007, VDOT Project No. U000-114-R67, P101, M501/UPC 104372. Since the City is replacing the water main where the road is shifting, the City of Newport News Waterworks Department (“NNWW”) has requested that the City also improve the water main in areas within the project limits where the road is not shifting.
Discussion:
NNWW is taking the opportunity to upgrade their aging facility while the City is improving the road within the project area. The betterments requested by NNWW to replace the water main in areas within the project limits where the road is not shifting are estimated to cost $109,000. The City of Newport News agrees, pursuant to Extension Agreement No. 059-FY19, dated June 8, 2019 (“Agreement”), to pay and reimburse the City the full costs of the water main replacement, not to exceed $109,000 without prior NNWW approval, upon construction completion. Staff requests appropriation of funds for construction of the betterments requested by NNWW as set forth in the Agreement.
