Title

Resolution Requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to Add Certain Streets to Those Classified as Principal and Minor Arterial Roads and Collector Roads and Local Streets

Purpose

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:

Annually a list of new streets which have been constructed within the City of Hampton (“City”) is compiled and sent to the Virginia Department of Transportation ("VDOT") for maintenance fund eligibility. Once VDOT accepts those streets into the maintenance system, the City receives annual funding in support of those streets. In order for VDOT to accept those streets, City Council must first adopt a resolution to officially submit those new lane miles; as well as to make adjustments and removals as needed for any previously approved streets. Only public roads are included.

Discussion:

The current application includes the addition of a number of new streets and roadways meeting those classifications.  The streets for FY2023 being added are Armistead Pointe Parkway, East Berkley Drive, Coliseum Drive, Darden Way, Floyd Thompson Boulevard, Mill Creek Court and Tulip Street.
