Resolution to Amend the Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to Accept and Appropriate the FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Awarded by United States Department of Justice (USDOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance
Purpose
PURPOSE/BACKGROUND:
The FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is an annually allotted award that is offered to the Hampton Police Division to support law enforcement operations and activities.
Discussion:
This year’s grant will fund 2 Aqualung Rapid Diver Systems for Marine Patrol, 3 WRAP Restraint Systems, 36 new SWAT Communications Headsets that are designed to work with new HPD Motorola Radios, a graphics wrap for the HPD Recruiting Unit vehicle to increase visibility for recruiting purposes and 5 printers needed to the Police Division.
Impact:
The City has been awarded $52,793 in federal grant funds from USDOJ. No local cash or in-kind match is required.

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded the FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $52,793;
WHEREAS, the FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant does not require a local cash or in-kind match;
WHEREAS, the FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant award will be used by the Hampton Police Division for the purchase of equipment and supplies to support police operations; and
WHEREAS, the grant award is for the period of October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2026.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia hereby amends its Fiscal Year 2024 Council Approved Budget to accept and appropriate the FY2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant award in the amount of $52,793, and any supplemental funding, to the Grants Fund in accordance with the grant agreement.
